FinAbility Transforms NW 13th Plaza into a Healing Space for Survivors

Portland, OR — On July 26th, FinAbility hosted its second annual #SpeakOut event at the NW 13th Plaza, transforming this public space into a powerful venue for healing and empowerment. This grassroots initiative, organized by survivors for survivors, empowers individuals who have experienced domestic and sexual abuse to reclaim their narratives and find community support.

This year’s Speak Out event was a resounding success, with more than 80 attendees. The gathering was further enriched by the participation of 12 nonprofit partners, who provided valuable information about survivor resources and support services.

The event began with a series of powerful speeches from survivors, each sharing their personal journeys and insights into overcoming abuse. These narratives underscored the critical importance of financial independence and community support in the healing process. After the initial presentations, the floor was opened for attendees to share their own stories, fostering a space of collective expression and solidarity.

Keri Daniel, Board Advisor at FinAbility, remarked, “When we envisioned creating Speak Out, we felt strongly about hosting it in a public space to invite community members from all walks of life to join us in solidarity against domestic and sexual abuse.”

We are proud to share that the event received a net promoter score of 9.6 out of 10 from attendees, partners, and volunteers. #SpeakOut serves as a powerful reminder of the strength and resilience of survivors, offering a platform for sharing, understanding, and healing. Through this initiative, FinAbility continues to foster an open community where survivors can reclaim their stories and work towards a future free from abuse.
